"RETURN TO MASTERPIECE". Solo exhibition of Alexander Kupalyan
We have been trying to understand contemporary art for such a long time, that we are already disappointed in these attempts. It is enough to ask ourselves a few questions and find our own answers to it. We have forgotten how to form our own opinion and impression of what we have seen, read and heard. We are looking for answers on everything seemingly incomprehensible in the World Wide Web and take someone else’s view and thoughts for our own conclusions. The method of perception had been available to mankind for many centuries before us, and we have lost this language of understanding. We are the contemporaries of a wonderful period of reassessment of value: craft, talent, skill, experience of the artist. Throughout their lives, artists are increasing their skills and abilities, which they later share with the viewer. The deficit of the real fine art provoked a new wave of renaissance.
VS unio art gallery starts the exhibition season with a grand opening for the artistic world of the new name of the young artist Alexander Kupalyan. Painting of Alexander Kupalyan combines the meaning, talent, and education what are opposed the mass of difficult-to-explain conceptual contemporary art. Alexander Kupalyan is a graduate and teacher of V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute, theater artist and co-owner of the private collection Ruar Nino, participant of many russian and international exhibitions, represents an exceptional phenomenon of time in which a breakthrough and rethinking of art take place.
Especially for the exhibition “Return to Masterpiece” a large-scale series of “The Death of Cities” was created and was dedicated to the mystical world of dying civilizations. The creation of this series is inspired by traveling through Italy and by the internship at the Naples Academy of Fine Arts. The mysterious ruins of Pompeii, destroyed in ancient times by severe cataclysms and natural disasters, stirred the imagination of the young artist.
Large-scale monumental genre paintings with deep philosophical overtones "Here was Herostratus", "To the memory of Guernica", "Desert`s bride Palmyra", "Pompeii. Step to the eternity", "The Black Christ"," The new life form. Hiroshima", "Wave. Atlantida" not only represent the natural consequences of the tragedy of the destruction of cities in the mud, soot, ash, but also expose the guilt of man in these troubles and misfortunes.
Not only the idea, but also the technical execution, conveying the tragedy of the place, carry Alexander Kupalyan's painstaking meticulousness to detail. The idea and exquisite execution of paintings for the exhibition took the artist about five years of hard work, to recreate the illusion of the ancient landscape with changing natural images in gloomy and bright colors.
A. Kupalyan is one of the first artists of the new generation who revives the stories of ancient history, weaving in the historical canvas of works elements of modern life, giving for the painting quality of the masterpiece.
